Caren Rangi, ONZM
Board Member

Caren Rangi grew up in Napier where she lives with her whānau. She is an experienced governor, a qualified chartered accountant, and a proud Cook Islands Māori. In 2018, she was conferred with an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to governance and the Pacific community and is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and a Member of the Institute of Directors

Alongside her HBREDA directorship, Caren is the Chair of NGO Pacific Homecare Services, Deputy Chair of Pacific Co-operation Broadcasting Ltd and a Board member of Te Papa Tongarewa (the Museum of New Zealand), and the Massey University Council. Her previous governance roles include Chair of the Arts Council of New Zealand, Governor of Radio New Zealand, Chair of the Pacific Business Trust, Board member of NZ On Air (Irirangi Te Motu)  and founding member of the Charities Registration Board. In the Cook Islands, Caren has been instrumental in establishing a director’s development programme for Board members of Cook Islands state-owned enterprises.

Caren joined HBREDA because she is passionate about the development of an inclusive economy. She has a particular interest in supporting Pasifika business to grow and flourish and supporting the development of good governance practices in the region.
